Improving Your Gum Health with Ease
1 March,2018Brushing and flossing are two steps to a dental routine that are often practiced for a stronger and healthier smile. But what is often overlooked in the dental routine is ways to strengthen the health of gums, which does play a huge role in the overall look of your smile.
By not looking after your gums, you can cause serious issues that affect your whole mouth.
For this reason, we have made it easy to improve your gum health in less than 5 minutes with tips and tricks that can be implemented into your normal dental routine.
Why Gums Matter
Gum disease is nothing new, nor is it uncommon. This infection can often be overlooked because it doesn’t really cause pain, so most individuals are not aware that they have it. It does not mean that this disease isn’t serious though, given that gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.
It occurs mainly because plaque is not removed through proper brushing and flossing. As we touched on, gum disease does not usually cause pain, so it can be difficult to determine if you have it or not.
There are a few signs that often point to the presence of gum disease, such as:
- Bleeding Gums
- Red/Swollen Gums
- Bad Breath (that fails to go away)
- Loose Teeth
- Receding Gums (that look as though they are pulling away from your teeth)
When it becomes more advanced in nature, gum disease turns into periodontitis. This is where it may cause the bones that make up the tooth to start deteriorating, therefore causing tooth loss.
Improve Gum Health
It is so easy to avoid all of this, simply by having a solid dental routine. Brushing and flossing are vital to healthy dental practice and can help you in defending your gums against gum disease. There are a number of techniques that are essential to bring into practice that can aid in your fight against gum disease.
- Smaller strokes: When brushing the teeth, focus on using smaller strokes that are gentler on the teeth. Do this not only to the front, but to the back of the teeth too.
- Proper Angles: Holding your toothbrush the correct way is vital to your brushing technique. Ensure your brush is angled at a 45-degree angle to reach your gum line in the brushing process.
- Brush your tongue: Something that many fail to do in their dental routine is brush their tongue, which is vital to keeping your mouth feeling and smelling fresh.
